SG– What chances are you’ll ask, has a 1928 picture of a chap on a Francis Barnett acquired to do with Nortons? The reply is easy – not likely him however his dad!

I knew John Newman again within the seventies, when he was working the native storage in Chobham, Surrey. He nonetheless had an early two-stroke  (I feel a Velocette) and was desirous about my 1930 Norton – by then fitted with a 1929 engine, with in fact uncovered valve gear … this led to his recollections of his father’s early OHV Norton within the twenties which was fitted with the primary inverted cup rockers – see scan. These in fact didn’t retain any lubricant as initially provided and John’s dad used bits of rubber tube to attempt to treatment the scenario!

Transfer on to November 1928 and Norton’s had seemingly woken as much as the wants of pushrod finish lubrication and talked about it of their publicity materials! Once more – see scan. None the much less, they don’t seem to have talked about any seals within the 1929 Elements Record.  In the meantime the Desmo Firm had began promoting  ‘Flexi -Lubricovers.’ Whereas Desmo didn’t point out any particular model they thought-about to be in want of the Lubricovers, the engine outlined of their advert. is doubtless……a Mannequin 18!!  Because of John for the 1928 stuff!
